Compassion

Yesterday wasn't the best day. I went into work to find that the second hand pram that I'd put aside had been thrown away. It felt like a slap in the face. It wasn't the pram, we can get another. It was the disregard, the assumptions, the thoughtlessness and the palpable lack of compassion.

Later I went to twitter and the Dalai Lama's quote for the day had just been tweeted, yes, even the Dalai Lama tweets, do you?

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." ~H H, the Dalai Lama

I think I might write this out and stick it on the noticeboard.

Each time I go in there it reconfirms my decision. I don't belong in that place.

  1. Perfect. Whether other people "deserve" our compassion or not, I think we owe it to ourselves to practice it. Life, as we all know now, is way too fragile and precious to fill up our days with all this anger and frustration.

Of course, you may have to remind me of this tomorrow.

  2. One of the things I've found in this journey is that I am way more compassionate with others than I am with myself.

  3. I may have to remind myself. Too. Frequently.

I just found out that the pram wasn't thrown away, it was sold. And at being asked about it, the answer from Bossycow was a shrug.

    And breathe...

  4. I think Ezra's Mommy said it perfectly. I'm much more compassionate with others than with myself. Certainly something to work on...
    Thanks, Barbara.

  5. I hope you can get out of there soon Barbara. We could be ladies who lunch during the week. If only there wasn't that whole living on the other side of the world thing....

  6. Ah Sally that would be nice!

I told Ray I wanted to be a kept woman... and he said, "so do I"

    *sigh*

  7. I'm sorry you had to deal with this and that work is giving you such a hard time. I'm moving soon so that I can become a kept woman or work some mindless job part-time or anything but go back to my old job. Understand hating your occupation but needing the money. Sigh.
